UFC champ Jon Jones arrested in Albuquerque, charged with DWI and and reckless use of a weapon

Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion generally considered the greatest mixed martial arts hero of all time, was arrested early Thursday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  

According to Albuquerque police records, Jones was stopped at 1:01 a.m. MDT on Central Ave SW. He was charged with aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm, no proof of insurance in the vehicle and possession of an open container.MMA Fighting confirmed that on a field sobriety check, Jones performed poorly and then tested at or over the legal limit.The blood-alcohol level in New Mexico is 0.08.

Officers have responded to a gunshot call.On arrival they find Jones running the engine in his car. He'd previously denied gunshots awareness. Police report reported officers said Jones showed signs of intoxication, and acknowledged earlier that he was driving.

The accident is the latest in a long line that has marred the reputation of Jones. In 2012, he pled guilty to DUI and in 2015, found guilty to fleeing the scene of an Albuquerque crash. He had been convicted last year on a battery charge in Albuquerque. Jones has since been twice disqualified for missing anti-doping tests from the sport.
